Roxaboxen

We made our very own community today inspired by the book Roxaboxen. We discussed what a community is made up of and then put our knowledge on a map. Each group had a street in the community of Sterling Bridge, which the class voted on the name. They did a vote for their street name and added the components of a community. Each student made sure to include their business (that they had wrote about) on the street.
Check out Team 1's Germany Street!
There was serious teamwork for Team 2's Rocky Road!
You can't forget about Team 3's Greenfield Street!
Look at just a few of our fabulous business owners. Don't worry about going hungry.....there is a milkshake shop (Luke's), a yogurt place (Camille's), a snow cone shop (Ella's), and two ice cream parlors (Sofia's and Hannah's)!

The Day it Rained Bunuelos!

The day it really did rain in Florida, it decided to rain bunuelos as well! We did a little readers theatre that had similarities to the story we read yesterday of "The Day it Snowed Tortillas." The kiddos learned what the Spanish bunuelo is and that it can be found as a special treat in many places such as Argentina, Columbia, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico. They also enjoyed learning Spanish words and phrases.

Fabulous Friday Fling

Even with a bunch of tests, Room 302 found some fun today! I felt very nostalgic as I read "Stone Soup" by Marcia Brown to the class. I still remember my teacher reading it when I was in 2nd grade! It was so fun getting to see all the expressions the kiddos made during the story. As you can probably tell by the picture, Tanner and Kali were shocked as the story unfolded! After we were finished with the book, the class went to their desks to create their very own Stone Soup story. So many creative ideas...like CJ's three ninjas coming to town!
I am so glad I got the opportunity to facepaint at the Spring Fling. I even got to paint a couple of great kiddos I knew! Hehe

Hula Hoop Fun!

We had too much fun comparing and contrasting "The Treasure" and "The Wizard of Oz" today during Reading! Who knew all it took was blank index cards and a couple of hula hoops?!

Hip Hip Hooray it is Dr. Seuss Day!

Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday! We started the day with a "Who Am I?" fill in sheet. It was fun getting to hear and see how the kiddos described themselves. Each one very special and unique!
A big thanks to Mrs. D for reading "Happy Birthday to You" by Dr. Seuss!!!
What's more fun than measuring Dr. Seuss characters in centimeters?!

Fables!

We had a busy week with fables. We started on Monday with reading "The Tortoise and the Hare" from our book and making a foldable.

On Tuesday, we did a vocabulary rating on words found in "The Ant and the Grasshopper." We then got into groups to read the fable.

Wednesday was a lot of fun with "The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf"! We completed a pre-reading activity and read the story together. Next, we broke off into small groups for a little readers theatre! Mrs. D even joined the fun!

We came back together to do a character analysis of the three fables we had learned so far.

Thursday was all about preparation for our fable test. We went over "The Fox and the Grapes" and "The Crow and the Pitcher" together.
